Lake View Terrace, once known as Rancho Tujunga, was one of the original Spanish land grants in the San Fernando Valley. Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound in this area with parks, recreation centers, golf courses, and equestrian trails. It is home to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, Hansen Dam Swim Lake, and the Discovery Cube Los Angeles. It also home to Monte Verde Ranch, one of the few destinations in the City of LA that offer year-round horseback rides to the public.
Early settlement of the area, which was originally called Tujunga Terrace, began in the 1870’s followed by homesteading in 1902. In 1948, the community was renamed Lake View Terrace, reflecting its location overlooking the then water-filled Hansen Dam.
