Building a Resilient Community
The Seventh Council District recently experienced two-large scale fires: the La Tuna Canyon and Creek Fire. In the aftermath of these disasters, I am leading efforts to examine best strategies to protect our neighborhoods from potential landslides and to ensure that residents receive the critical resources needed to recover and prepare for future emergencies. To learn more about key emergency resources, visit here.
Combating illegal dumping is a priority and my CD 7 Strike Team is hard at work cleaning up the worst trouble spots in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. In my first 100 Days, my Strike Team alone collected over 75,000 pounds of waste and bulky items. To report illegal dumping and request bulky item pick up in your neighborhood, please call 3-1-1 or download the MyLA311 app: http://bit.ly/2x1LIa0.
Equine Advisory Council
The Northeast San Fernando Valley is home to a few of the most scenic equestrian trails in the City of Los Angeles. To preserve and protect our public trails, I appointed a diverse Equine Advisory Council made up of local horse and ranch owners, to engage the equestrian community and thoughtfully address safety concerns and create contiguous trail systems in the 7th District.
Homelessness Task Force
Homelessness knows no boundaries and affects people from all walks of life. Working to fulfill my commitment to address this crisis, I've created the first Council District 7 Homelessness Task Force, appointing community members to assist in the coordination with our city departments, non-profit service providers, and County agencies to target expansion of outreach efforts, provide quality services and house the most vulnerable in our communities.
Business Watch Program
Modeled after the “Neighborhood Watch,” our Business Watch Program promotes the partnership between businesses, law enforcement, and the Council Office to address crime prevention. As a community, we will look out for one another and provide problem-solving techniques to proactively address local public safety issues.
