Internship Openings: Council District 7 – Communications, Planning, Policy, and Community Relations.

Council District 7: District 7 of the City of Los Angeles covers the diverse communities of Sylmar, Mission Hills, Pacoima, Lake View Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga, North Hills, Shadow Hills, and La Tuna Canyon.
The Internships: The Council Office is looking for interns to serve in the Councilwoman’s communications, planning, policy, and District Offices to help communicate her agenda. The internship provides top undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to learn the legislative and community relations process while working on the pressing policy issues facing the City of Los Angeles and the 7th Council District. The Councilwoman Chairs the City's Public Safety Committee and also serves on the following Council committees: “Information, Technology, and General Services,” "Homelessness and Poverty," and “Economic Development.” All internships are unpaid.
The Role: Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to, policy research and development, outreach to key stakeholder groups, working with community groups, briefing senior staff, working with press and social media outlets, documenting council and committee meetings, and helping with needs as they arise in a fast-paced political environment.
The Candidate: The ideal candidate possesses a passion for making meaningful, sustainable change in Los Angeles and the Northeast Valley, and is ready to work in a high-energy, collaborative work environment. Profiles for a successful candidate would likely have work experience in business, non-profit, or legal fields OR education experience in public policy, business, public administration, city planning, economics, or the law. Candidates must be over the age of 18 and be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week.
