Gabriela Medina is the District Director to Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. She previously served as District Director to US Representative Nanette Diaz Barragán, overseeing the 44th Congressional District including the cities of Walnut Park, South Gate, Lynwood, Compton, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, Willowbrook, Watts, Carson, Wilmington, and San Pedro. After spending some time in Congress, six years with the City of Los Angeles and five years working in the non-profit sector, Gaby understands the multitude of challenges her communities face and how access to local government can lead to opportunities and solution based initiatives.
Under the leadership of Councilman Joe Buscaino, Gabriela was a Field Deputy representing over 80,000 residents in the communities of Wilmington and Harbor City. She championed recreational and commercial development projects that revitalized the conditions of public spaces and promoted accessibility and usage. Gabriela partnered with hundreds of organizations and businesses to ensure resident voices were acknowledged and part of the decision making process in City Hall.
Under her new capacity Gaby looks forward to growing these partnerships and ensuring the communities she represents have access to city resources, directly advancing the opportunities of residents. She is passionate about economic development, the environment, and mentoring young women.
Ms. Medina is a proud daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador. She was born and raised in South Los Angeles, attended the University of California, Los Angeles, and majored in Sociology. She is a member of Lambda Theta Nu, Sorority, Incorporated.
